The National Youth Service (NYS) has advertised a nationwide NYS recruitment exercise for volunteers across the country. The exercise will take place from Monday, February 10, to Saturday, February 15 across key select regions in the country.
All candidates seeking to be enlisted must be Kenyan citizens and residents of their respective sub-counties of recruitment and have a KCSE mean grade of D plain and above.
Candidates will also be required to produce an original National ID, Certificate of Good Conduct, get a medical check-up during and after the exercise and be prepared to go through a rigorous training session.
Successful candidates will report for the NYS paramilitary course at the Academy in Gilgil and Naivasha on the dates and times specified in the calling letters to be issued upon successful NYS recruitment exercise.
The NYS recruitment exercise will provide preference to orphans who meet entry requirements. The same also applies to persons with disability provided they are able to complete the physical training.

Interested candidates should produce their original national identity card, and academic certificates (and avail one set of photocopies of the same at the recruitment center).
They must have a certificate of good conduct, be ready for medical check-ups during and after the recruitment exercise, undergo rigorous physical training, and be prepared to give voluntary service to the nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya.
The Service said successful candidates will report for the NYS paramilitary course at NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil and NYSTTI, Naivasha on dates and times which will be specified in their respective calling letters to be issued.
The recruits will be subjected to rigorous non-combat paramilitary training for six months.
NYS said orphans who meet the qualification requirements will be given special preference, subject to the production of sufficient documentary proof such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
Further, persons with disabilities are also encouraged to participate in the recruitment exercise in their respective sub counties and centres, provided they can withstand the rigorous physical training.
NYS stated that applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will also be considered.
NYS affirmed that it does not condone corruption in any form, warning that canvassing and giving monetary or other considerations for the purpose of admission is an offence which may lead to automatic disqualification and/ or prosecution.
