We all have come across these flying termites whenever it rains right? They are usually attracted to light and usually fly at night. Where do these winged termites come from? What is their mission? Where do they go after coming from their hideout? Are they attracted to the rain or so? These are the questions we have been asking ourselves since our childhood days.
Where do you think these termites come from by the way? We all know what science has taught us and how termites work. They usually have their colony, oooh, they also have a queen. Shouldn’t that be a kingdom? My question here is, do they have Princes and Princesses? Let’s not dwell on that much. We have our mission ahead ladies and gentlemen.
We have this story of certain people, we call the “Walicha” back there at home. These are the people who are very strong in their cultural practices. They usually have their ceremony I don’t remember what it’s usually for but yeah they do their cultural practices after every 2 years in December. The Even Numbered Years. Their next one will now be next year. I think they already did their thing last year. You see I never visited the countryside so I don’t know, but I’ll ask and you know what? I don’t know.
Well, in their practices they usually have a walk on the paths, singing their cultural songs some words are even not understandable but they sing. Praising their gods ladies and gentlemen. Now, in their practices, you are never allowed to be seen in front of them. Why? And what happens? Lemme tell you something I have just forgotten to tell you as soon as I mentioned the team.
Tradition And Winged Termites
Hayaa, the Walicha while doing their practices, is that English correct? It doesn’t matter though, just get the message from me. They usually stay stark naked and wrap themselves in blankets. It is usually said that you need not see them eye to eye.
Someone still asks, what will happen. Well, it is usually said that they’d make winged termites come from your head. That isn’t the worst thing, there is this most embarrassing thing where they’d make your private parts, Dickson Munene and Shimo La Tewa appear on your forehead. It is usually irritable if you covered so one had to leave it open for everyone to see and laugh at them.
I was raised in a Christian Family and have never seen these things happen. I have never seen these termites and private parts shenanigans. I’d never wish to see that happen to someone just because they were in front of some people. Who does that anyway?
Where were we? Ooh, I now remember ladies and gentlemen. So that’s how the theory of the winged termites came out. It is said that wherever you see an anthill with winged termites, that’s where the dead are buried. They said these were the people who were cursed by the Walichas and were buried with the termites still coming from their heads. You see if the termites came out of your head and never visited their shrines to offer som sacrifice, they claimed that you’d die after a short time. Don’t shoot the messenger though, I just write what I hear people say.
Well, they claimed that we eat people’s dead bodies in the form of termites. These stories frightened us big time. I mean, how can we be eating dead people? Some of my friends despised them after listening to the stories. The problem was that the person telling you the story would be seen later in the day capturing them and putting them in a bucket. Maybe, he was going to give the “dead bodies” a proper burial. Who knows?
Well, I also bought the fear. I also collected the termites so I could give a proper burial to the persons. Wasn’t that fair?
