The family of one of the missing Mlolongo 3 has told the High Court that the body of Justus Mutumwa has been found in Ruai and moved to the City Mortuary. The fate of the remaining two men abducted at the height of the Gen Z digital demonstrations late last year remains unknown.
Family lawyer Dan Maanzo has faulted the police for giving false information to the public regarding the progress of the investigation and the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
“The police gave misleading information that they were on their way to Kitui but the body was found in a river around Ruai a day after disappearance. The police did not give the correct information in court,” said Senator Maanzo.
On Thursday, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja told the court that the three brothers who were not in police custody. Mr Kanja had snubbed several court summons before telling the presiding judge at at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi that the three were not in police custody.
DCI boss Mohammed Amin, honouring the latest court summon, said that the agency was actively investigating and have been doing so since they received information from the National Police Service.
On her part, Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo faulted the police for the ‘hilarious’ response to the missing Mlolongo 3 case. She said the police were dishonest in making the public believe investigations were ongoing yet they had the body just a day after the three were reported missing.
“What is hilarious is that the police had already discovered a body and were doing investigations yet all along, they have denied knowledge of the whereabouts of the (missing Mlolongo 3). It is their (the National Police Service) responsibility to tell Kenyans on the whereabouts of abducted Kenyans and how far they are with the investigations.

The three men Mutumwa (now deceased), Martin Mwau and Karani Muema disappeared last year in December in Mlolongo. This prompted the court to order Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohamed Amin to appear in court to shed light on their whereabouts.
