In his most recent role, he led several nationwide digital transformation initiatives that have contributed to the advancement of Kenya’s digital infrastructure across key sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, MSMEs and public finance. Boniface Mungania will be keen to strengthen Safaricom’s position as one of the most valuable brands in Africa. In Kenya, M-Pesa and Safaricom are the top two most valuable brands according to a survey of 2,250 adults who assessed more than 1,900 brands across 110 categories.
The dominance of Safaricom and MPESA is testament to the company’s deep reach in the Kenyan and East African market, where mobile money and digital banking has evolved beyond basic transfers into a broader financial services ecosystem supporting payments, savings, credit and business transactions.
